Palisade Head is one of the most epic places in all of Minnesota. Palisade Head is located along the North Shore of Lake Superior near Silver Bay. The towering cliffs can be as high as 300 feet above the lake. It’s easily one of the most beautiful places to watch a sunrise in Minnesota. Tons of people rock climb here as well and hike through the forest along the top. It’s a magical place.
Santos and Gina’s elopement day began with a first look at sunrise at Palisade Head. We hiked to the top in hiking clothes and once we reached our spot and it started to get a little light out, they began to change. My wife helped Gina get ready and I helped Santos get ready. We then set them up for their first look. It was such a special moment for them.
The morning was really foggy so we didn’t get that dramatic sunrise that can happen here. However it was so special with all the fog and the unique conditions that were happening. The cliffs appeared to be floating in the clouds as if they were thousands of feet tall. We had so much fun exploring around to the many epic viewpoints and capturing photos of them enjoying time with each other in the process.

Afterward we went to Black Beach which is close by. The foggy morning perfectly fit the mood of that beach so it was perfect for an extra adventure to include into their day. We put the drone up here even to capture some unique aerial perspectives. We were able to do some more fun movement photos here and they had so much fun being competitive with one another. They raced each other along the beach and we had Santos spinning Gina around. They were some of my favorite photos from their day.

We took a short break to get a nap in from the early morning start. After a couple of hours, we met back up at their hotel room. We stayed at the Bluefin Bay Resort in Tofte Minnesota which is located close to many amazing hikes and state parks. We started off capturing photos of all their details that they brought. Then we went on a short walk to the beach near the hotel to capture a laid back couples session of them skipping rocks and exploring the rocky shores.

Then we packed up snacks, their wedding clothes, and their vows to head off to the sunset location. This is a very special place that isn’t very well known to the public. However it’s easily one of the most breathtaking views on the entire North Shore that overlooks the Superior National Forest. We had a fun adventure crossing some creeks as we hiked to the summit. It takes roughly an hour to get here and is worth every minute.
Once we arrived at the top we took a brief moment to enjoy the views of the fall colors sweeping across the landscape. The views didn’t stick around long. Before they got changed into their wedding attire, the views already disappeared from the dense fog that decided to randomly roll in. That didn’t ruin our moods though as the landscape was still so special even with the fog. It really felt like we were in Yosemite exploring these massive rock boulders that towered high in the clouds once again. The fall colors still covered the forest all around us and we found a beautiful spot for their ceremony.

Their ceremony was tucked against some beautiful red, yellow, and green fall colors while standing on the rocky boulders. This is easily one of my favorite moments from their day. They both wrote personal vows to one another. As they each shared their vows, the tears began to flow as they shared deep and personal moments from their journey. The vulnerability that they entrusted to one another was so beautiful to witness and capture. These were my favorite photos from their day as I love when couples aren’t afraid to be vulnerable with each other and deeply share their love for one another.

We ended their elopement with some lantern photos along the cliffs. I’ve never laughed so hard as I did during this moment. Santos and Gina were goofing off and having fun with their lanterns and really embracing the main character energy. Santos cracked some one liners that left us all laughing so hard. It’s these moments that I absolutely love about elopements. The connection and comfort you get to build with each other is so special.
