Cody and Treva decided to have a Minnesota North Shore elopement for their wedding. They both wanted something different and personalized to them. As their Minnesota elopement photographer, I loved every bit of helping them plan their dream day from finding the perfect locations, planning the logistics, and coming up with back up plans. One of our favorite locations was the famous black beach.
They rented an A-frame cabin that had a beautiful setting overlooking Lake Superior. We used it for all their getting ready photos before we set off on our adventures for the day. It was the perfect cozy spot too as it was raining all morning before we started our hike.
For their ceremony we decided to go hike up Oberg mountain in the Superior National Forest. Luckily the weather was beautiful this day in March. The sun was shining and it was 40F which felt amazing (if you know you know). After walking around to a few overlook options we found the spot that they loved and got ready for their ceremony.
After they made it official, we stuck around for some more portraits and found some more spots as we hiked down to our vehicles to go have lunch. We found some spots amongst the pine trees where the light was filtering through and looked amazing even during the mid day light.
After we finished lunch, we began heading towards Tettegouche State Park for their adventure photos. However we made some stops at some places I knew along the way that they would love. There’s a beautiful canyon at Temperance River State Park I wanted to bring them to. We made a quick stop here to explore and capture some fun photos.
After Temperance we continued down to Tettegouche to explore around the cliffs there. We also found some very unique trees with roots that wrapped around these giant boulders. They were so cool to see and use for some interesting photos.
With more time til sunset, we set out to explore two more locations. Both of these next spots are two of my personal favorites along the North Shore. If you don’t want to go on a crazy hike (which I am always game for) both of these give iconic views of what makes have a Minnesota North Shore elopement so incredible.
Perhaps one of the most famous spots in all of Minnesota. As we explored here the wind was blowing hard off Lake Superior. Treva handled it so well even in the colder weather so we could capture those dramatic photos that she absolutely loves. The wind blowing around her dress looked like something straight out of a fairytale. The seagulls were flying all around and the beauty of the blue water crashing against the black beach was all too perfect.
Palisade Head has to be one of the most iconic spots with towering cliffs overlooking Lake Superior. There’s so many fun places to explore at the top. It’s the perfect location for sunrise but also works great for sunset. We spent the rest of the evening in the trees and on the cliff edges here taking in those sunset photos and lantern photos to end their elopement day.
