Best Places to Elope in Minnesota

1. Palisade Head

Palisade Head is one of the most epic locations in Minnesota. It’s the perfect place to elope if you’re looking for those dramatic jaw dropping photos to hang on your wall. With cliffs standing roughly 300 feet tall over Lake Superior make sure you’re not afraid of heights when you come here (don’t worry it’s plenty safe to explore). Aside from the cliffs you can explore many spots along this area to escape the crowds if it gets busy and the fall colors are beautiful up here if you’re looking for something unique.

2. Tettugouche State Park

Tettugouche is a perfect location for your adventure elopement if you’re looking for a mix of adventure and convenience. It has spots along Lake Superior including cliffs and beaches that are pretty accessible to get to for your ceremony and then you can easily explore more from there. Tettugouche also has a beautiful waterfall location you can hike to for more photos and if you’re feeling extra adventurous, you can get in the water for some playful photos.

3. Black Beach

Black beach is arguably the most popular location in Minnesota for elopements and for good reason. The landscape here reminds me of places from Iceland. It’s truly one of the most unique places in our state. People travel from all over to come explore this beautiful place and take photos here. Aside from the beautiful black beach itself, there’s cliffs all along the area that you can explore and take photos on for unique perspectives. Depending on the time of year, jump in the water to end the evening and get some fun and playful photos.

4. Bean and Bear Lake

Are you a more adventurous couple that’s not afraid to put on some miles? Then bean and bear lake is perfect for you. With a 7 mile out and back stretch, you’ll be sure to avoid the crowds here. There’s some pretty incredible cliffs overlooking bear lake over the halfway point to explore. From there you can continue to the overlook (pictured above) to take in the full view of both lakes and take some more photos. Be sure to adventure down to the lakes as well for a different perspective.

You can either hike in and out in one stretch (be sure to bring headlamps) or pack in gear to camp overnight here to have a sunset and sunrise at this magnificent location. Bean and bear lake hiking information.

5. Split Rock Lighthouse

Split Rock Lighthouse is one of the most iconic locations on Minnesota’s North Shore. People come from all over to camp at this state park and explore it’s beauty. With a beautiful rocky beach and rugged coastline there’s tons of amazing places to exchange your vows and take incredible photos. You can even go for a hike along the Superior Hiking Trail to get to an overlook of the whole beachfront below the Split Rock Lighthouse.

6. Taylor’s Falls

Taylor’s Falls is arguably one of the most popular towns in Minnesota. Tourists come from all over to walk through this town and shop. They also love to walk around the beautiful Interstate State Park that surrounds the St. Croix River. There’s beautiful cliffs to explore on both the Minnesota and Wisconsin side along with a beach. River boat rides are also available.

7. Section 13

Are you ready to get off the beaten path and explore Minnesota’s natural beauty. Section 13 is a 2.8 mile out-and-back trail that overlooks Minnesota’s Superior National Forest. There’s a beautiful lake in the distance and some dramatic rock formations to explore. The hike to get hear is fairly easy if you enjoy hiking and your rewarded with some incredible views. Campsites are close to stay overnight if you choose. I highly recommend exploring this magnificent location.

8. Park Point

Park point located in Duluth, MN is a beautiful long beach along Lake Superior. There’s an option to rent a venue space there if you wish to do so. If you want to feel like you’re on a beach in Florida with the ocean as your backdrop this is the perfect place for you. There’s areas of grass that cover the sand behind the beach area which are perfect for those dreamy photos. There’s tons of amazing places to explore from here like Canal Park, Duluth, or continue North along Lake Superior to experience Minnesota’s North Shore.
